TikTok for Brands in 2026: Photos, Video and Data
Brands do well on TikTok when they look like they belong there: close to the camera and on the topic of the day. In practice that fits into two formats: the photo post, which is TikTok's carousel, and the short video. Everything else is fine-tuning. Below is what I would prioritize in each format, what TikTok asks before you publish, and what you can measure.
Photo post or video: which one?
Both, with different jobs.
A photo post is the cheapest way to show up on TikTok consistently. In the app, TikTok accepts up to 35 photos in one post, but what works is what works in any carousel: a first frame that stops the scroll and one idea per frame. If you already make Instagram carousels, you have raw material, as long as you rewrite the caption for the platform, shorter and more conversational. I wrote about carousel hooks with Instagram in mind, and most of it applies here.
Video is where TikTok gives reach to people who do not follow you yet. The rule: the first second has to show why it is worth staying. An intro with a logo and opening music is the fastest way to lose someone who came from the feed.
For a solo creator, the most sustainable mix is usually video when you can record and photo posts on the other days, so the account does not disappear during a busy week.
What TikTok asks before every post
TikTok is different from the other networks here. Its rules for posting through the API require choices made by hand on every post, and nothing can come preselected:
- Who can see it: everyone, followers, friends, or only you. The options depend on what your account allows.
- Whether the post allows comments, duets and stitches.
- Whether it is commercial content. If it is, you say whether it promotes your own brand, another company (branded content), or both. Branded content cannot be posted as private.
It feels like paperwork, and a little of it is. For an agency running several clients, though, that panel prevents a partnership post from going out without the commercial disclosure TikTok requires.
Two technical rules help with planning too: a post is either photos or a video, never both, and it takes one video. And, through the API, a video cover is always a frame from the video itself; you cannot send a separate cover image.
How Zynta Flow publishes to TikTok
In Zynta Flow, you connect TikTok inside the brand kit and the post goes straight to your profile through the official API, without sending a draft to the app for you to finish on your phone.
The composer has a TikTok panel with everything listed above. It starts empty on purpose: you pick the audience, the interactions and the commercial disclosure. The privacy options come from your account when the composer opens, and Zynta checks them again at publish time, because the account can change between scheduling and the post date.
You build the carousel in Zynta or upload photos or a video, write the caption (or ask for an AI caption in TikTok's style), fill in the panel and schedule. On a photo post, the start of the caption becomes the highlighted title and the full caption, hashtags included, goes in the description.
If the same video also goes to Instagram with a cover you uploaded, the composer asks you to pick a frame of the video for TikTok, since the image cover never reaches it. That way TikTok does not choose the cover on its own.
When you cross-post, the same content goes to Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok and each network keeps its own result: if one fails, the others stay published. The full flow is in how to schedule Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok posts.
What can you measure on TikTok?
Less than you would like. Through the API Zynta uses, TikTok gives the account's followers, total likes and video count, and, for each video, views, likes, comments and shares.
What that API does not give: a daily series of anything, follower gains and losses, demographics, watch time, retention or traffic sources.
Since TikTok only reports the current totals, Zynta records one reading a day of your account and each video, with daily tracking turned on in the brand kit (the screen shows what it costs in credits). That is what builds the history: the follower curve and each video's performance over time. The history starts the day tracking starts, and a day nobody recorded does not come back. Turn it on early.
The numbers show up in the TikTok tab in Insights and in "All networks", next to Instagram and LinkedIn. For an in-house brand team, that answers the question that always comes up in the review meeting: is TikTok bringing people in or just taking up time? For what to track, see social media analytics: what to track.
Scheduling is free. Each published post costs 5 credits per network, and a failed publish costs nothing. An AI agent can also schedule TikTok posts through the Zynta MCP server.
Frequently asked questions about TikTok for brands
What is a TikTok photo post?
It is TikTok's carousel: several images in one post that people swipe through, with a caption and hashtags. In the app, TikTok accepts up to 35 photos per post. For a brand, it is the cheapest way to post consistently, because it reuses carousels made for other networks with a rewritten caption.
Photo post or video: which performs better?
It depends on the goal. Video is usually the format that takes a brand to people who do not follow the account yet. Photo posts are cheaper to produce and help keep the posting frequency up. A routine I recommend is video when you can record and photo posts on the other days.
Why does TikTok ask for privacy settings on every post?
TikTok's rules for posting through the API require the person to choose by hand who sees the post, which interactions are allowed and the commercial disclosure. Nothing can be prefilled. In Zynta Flow, the TikTok panel starts empty, and the privacy options come from what your account allows.
Can I use a custom cover image on a TikTok video?
Not through the API. TikTok only accepts a frame from the video itself as the cover. In Zynta Flow, when the same video also goes to Instagram with an uploaded cover, the composer asks you to pick a frame for TikTok, so the network does not choose one on its own.
Does Zynta Flow post directly to TikTok or send a draft to the app?
It posts directly to your profile through TikTok's Content Posting API at the scheduled time. You do not need to open the app to finish the post. Before sending it, Zynta checks that the post is either photos or a single video, because TikTok does not accept both together.
Which TikTok metrics does Zynta Flow show?
For the account: followers, total likes and number of videos. For each video: views, likes, comments and shares. Because TikTok's API only gives the current totals, Zynta Flow records one reading a day, with daily tracking on for the brand, and builds the history from there.
How much does it cost to publish on TikTok with Zynta Flow?
Scheduling is free. Each published post costs 5 credits per network, charged only when TikTok receives the post, and a failed publish costs nothing. The same content can also go to Instagram and LinkedIn, and each network is charged once.
