AI captions in your brand voice

TL;DR

  • AI captions sound generic when the model has no brand voice, no idea what the post says and no job to do.
  • Write your voice down (three adjectives with their opposites, words you use and avoid, real examples) and write each caption from the carousel, not from the topic.
  • Give every caption one job (save, comment, click or share), keep hashtags to a few specific ones and edit the first line yourself.

You can spot an AI caption from the first line. "Unlock the power of…", "In today's fast-paced world…", three emojis, a question nobody asked and a wall of hashtags. Your followers spot it too, and they scroll past.

The problem is not that AI wrote it. The problem is that it was written for nobody: no brand, no voice, no idea of what the post on top of it actually says. Fix those three inputs and AI captions stop sounding like AI.

Why most AI captions sound the same

  • No voice to imitate. Asked for "a caption about our new menu", a model writes the most average caption about a new menu that exists.
  • No idea what the visual says. The caption repeats the carousel slide by slide, or contradicts it.
  • No job. A caption has to do something: get the save, start the comments, send people to the link. Without a job it fills space.

Give it your voice, in writing

"Friendly and professional" describes every brand on earth. A useful voice description is specific enough that someone else could reject a sentence for breaking it:

  • Three adjectives and their opposites. "Direct, not blunt. Warm, not cute. Expert, not academic."
  • Words you use and words you never use. Maybe you say "clients", never "customers". Maybe you never say "game-changer".
  • Two or three real captions that sound like you at your best.

Write it once, keep it with your logo and colors, and every caption starts from it instead of from zero. If you are not sure what your voice is, look at your website: the way you already describe your business is usually the best starting point.

Write the caption from the post, not from the topic

The caption and the carousel are one piece. The best captions read the slides first, then do what the slides cannot: give context, tell the short story behind the post, or ask the question that gets people talking. They do not repeat slide 3.

Give every caption one job

Decide before writing which of these it is:

  • Save it: the post is a reference, and the caption says so ("Save this for your next launch").
  • Comment: a real question, specific enough to answer in one line.
  • Click: one link, one reason, in the last line.
  • Share: name who it is for ("Send this to the friend who always posts at midnight").

One job per caption. Two calls to action get half the response each, and three get none. Our post on caption formulas that do a job has six structures built around this.

Edit like a human

AI gets you a strong first draft in seconds. Spend the time you saved on two minutes of editing:

  1. Rewrite the first line until it would make you stop scrolling.
  2. Cut every sentence that would fit under any other post.
  3. Read it out loud. If you would not say it to a client, change it.
  4. Keep hashtags few and specific. Instagram now caps a post at five, so pick the ones people actually search.

Where Zynta Flow fits

In Zynta Flow, the brand kit holds your voice next to your logo, fonts and colors, and you can fill it straight from your website. The caption tool reads the carousel you made, writes in that voice, and lets you choose the language, the length, the call to action and whether to add hashtags (up to five). Each caption costs 10 credits, and you can edit it before it goes out with the post.

Because the caption is written from the slides, it complements them instead of repeating them, which is the difference between a caption people read and one they skip.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make AI captions sound less like AI?

Give the model a specific brand voice, the actual content of the post and one job for the caption, then edit the first line and cut any sentence that would fit under any other post.

What should a brand voice description include?

Three adjectives with their opposites, words you always use and never use, and two or three real captions that sound like you at your best.

How many hashtags should an Instagram caption have?

A few specific ones that people actually search. Instagram now limits a post to five hashtags.

Should the caption repeat what the carousel says?

No. The caption should add context, tell the story behind the post or ask a question, and leave the slides to carry the content.

How much does an AI caption cost in Zynta Flow?

10 credits. The caption is written from your carousel in your brand voice, in the language and length you choose, and you can edit it before publishing.
